Well, here it is. My final panorama for CGIA215 Digital Imaging Essentials. I am fairly experienced with photoshop so I didn’t find this assignment too far of a stretch, but learned a LOT about color profiling for print and how the DOC (Digital Output Centre) works. I learned image resolution and pixel distribution and many other useful things that I will hold on to. Overall I was fairly happy with the outcome, clearly this is a Utopia, me dancing around with my frog umbrella. I think one thing I would change is that I would make myself smaller, I’m not sure that the scale is exactly right, but then again this is my fantasy land so anything is possible. I also added blurring onto all of the characters instead of a couple, not sure why I decided against it before I printed it but here it is on this one.

january, thoughts and ramblings
I won’t be sad to see January go. It’s one step closer to summer, this is my lack of vitamin d is talking for me. I’m tired of the weather being a flatline, although it is an extremely warm winter that I can’t complain about. Besides it being one step closer to summer it’s one step closer to the Olympics! I’m pretty sure you’ve figured that out by now though. I’m excited but also scared… of how busy it’s going to be. Everywhere in Vancouver is bustling, skytrains are packed and I hear 10 different languages around me most of the time, since I have time to listen on my lovely one hour commute from my suburb of Tsawwassen (it’s really not that bad). I’ll be checking Vancouver out during, but I know it’ll be craziness and that I’ll probably be doing this only a couple times, if not less. I’ll be working and attempting to finish homework during so that will occupy most of my time.

Hmmmm, that’s a bit harsh. I’ve felt somewhat that way but I think that’s going a little too far. They’re coming whether we like it or not so why be bitter about it? Life is too short to be bitter and apathetic. So zip it, go outside, and party that shit up with our guests.
As far as school goes, my work load hasn’t been too bad lately, assignments and projects have been spaced out nicely so far it seems. I hope it continues like this, I’m a fan of having spare time, and a life. Speaking of a life… it’s Saturday night and I’m sitting inside on my computer. I’ve felt EXTREMELY lazy the entire weekend. I can’t see myself doing much besides gathering ideas for my silkscreen project, a 6 color/layer silkscreen. I need to have this figured out by monday at the latest, so I’ll update the progress. I’ve gone through a million ideas, I just need to pick one and FOCUS on it. I’ve thought about doing a Ganesha stencil, dropped that, thought about Vishnus many arms and combining that with something else, that’s… brewing. But I might go for something simpler because I’m running out of time.
Anyways, I like the idea of starting a ‘one drawing a day’ escapade, whether I can stick to it or not is the question. We’ll see how that turns out.

it’s true
One of the first things I see when I wake up is a screen. The last thing I see before bed is usually… a screen. I need to pick up a book more often.
Also, Shambhala tickets came in the mail!!!! And no, I won’t shut up about it.

first assignment = procrastinate(?)
Finished the first assignment of the year and term, completed in Drawing II one of the Foundation courses I’m finishing up. I left it until the last minute as per usual, a great start to first term… you’d think I’d have learned my lesson since I’ve been procrastinating my entire life. It’s just not that easy it seems, even if I leave 10 drawings until the night before and stay up until 3am finishing them, I’m sure I’ll do the same thing with the next assignment. I have no logical explanation for this.
So here we go. The assignment was to draw around 10 drawings from observation experimenting with different mediums, marks, tones, contexts etc. So basically just try something new. The thing with drawing II my teacher tells us, is that you can choose your own subject matter, whereas Drawing I you would be assigned to do “that damn apple drawing” which was the precursor to a pile of assignments equally as boring. I took this a little too literally and for some reason figured that ‘from observation’ meant I could draw from photographs. When really it meant to draw something from real life. Apparently I killed a little too many brain cells over the christmas holidays, drawing from photographs is very much frowned upon in the world of drawing class, as I now know. It’s all about observation people! OBSERVATION! That stuff in front of you. Well now I know but I ended up drawing magazine ads, not the most ‘original’ idea but what is nowadays (totally). I was interested in the advertisements and what they portray, which is usually something better looking, cooler and more expensive than the person viewing it can afford or look. I started off with this drawing:
“Business is Serious Business” 16×20″ White Pencil Crayon on black matte board.
Look at how serious those business men are. SERIOUSLY. It’s a Strellson ad, some ridiculously overpriced clothing company I am assuming. I elongated the necks (obviously, unless that’s what you think people look like?) and added some weird hair, inspired by graffiti/street art styles.
Next we have:
“Agyness” 11×14″ India ink and Water Pastel on Arches Paper
This was from a Time magazine I had lying around my room that I accidentally stole from someone because I started drawing it in my sketchbook and forgot about it. Anyways. She is a famous model and I liked this picture because she’s wearing a shirt that has a picture of herself on it, that looks like a 5 year old drew it. I experimented with throwing ink around and drew this pretty fast. I tend to draw super detailed and WAY too slow. I also want to develop a more interesting style. I find mine can be too rigid and too realistic. I enjoyed drawing fast and messy.
I really liked drawing on black paper. It turns out so vivid.
“Necklace Girl” 11×14″ White pencil crayon on Arches Paper
This was in a womens fitness magazine, a shoot for some clothing or another. I just liked her pose and facial expression, she had a lot of gold jewelery on and was all BLANG BLANG. I almost want to go back and photoshop gold necklaces onto her. Maybe in the future. Anyways I am definitely going to continue drawing on black paper.
“Gisele” 11×14″ India Ink on Arches Paper
This was at 3AM, alright? I experimented with some dry brushing and I liked the blurry effect, almost like a filter in photoshop. It was a Versace ad with Gisele Bundchen I think, I can’t remember. There are magazine bits and pieces all over my floor and I’d like to avoid them for a bit longer.
So that was part of my first assignment, I’d say those were my favorites out of the 10 drawings that I did, the others were much more messy, blind contours and gesture drawings and stuff like that. Definitely stepped outside of my ‘comfort zone’ with these and I really want to continue in this way.

lookbook more like lolbook
I’m not hating on those that like it alright, I’m just sayin’ that I don’t really enjoy taking pictures of my totally awsum*~ outfits and then posting it on a website so people can be all OH MA GAWDZ you’re like SOOO KEWL.
I save that for facebook.
I’m also just jealous because they all have way more clothes than I do.
Looking at this makes me cold.

life in shambles
My life would be in shambles… if I hadn’t just purchased tickets to SHAMBHALA. It actually doesn’t sound like a word anymore, but it is. What the hell is Shambhala you ask? In terms of buddhism it’s a holy place in Tibet (thank you, Wikipedia…) In terms of OMGWTFHOLYSHITAWESOMEBBQ it’s 4 days of music, strobe lights and nature heaven. Although I’ve never been and tickets were stupid expensive (I shouldn’t have a credit card) and it’s a 12 hour drive to get there… I’m going. It’s also not until August. But people keep telling me it’s unreal and it gets bigger every year so I’d like a chance to experience it before it gets shut down. This dreary winter-rain weather has me dreaming of this summery paradise like mad… and it’s only January. I’ll see you soon enough, summer.

Dancing among the trees… what could be better…

First Blog Post….EVER
I’ve been thinking about getting a blog for awhile now. I was thinking about it last night actually, and have been thinking about it for months. Funnily enough, my first class of the new terms first assignment is to make one… how strange is that.
